As the organization grew, it became impossible for Inamori to oversee all of the departments. This gave him an inspiration: “The large organization should be divided into smaller units that operate as an association of small- and medium-sized enterprises.”
He therefore decided to divide the company into small operating units called “amoebas” — placing a leader in each one, and managing them all with a divisional accounting system. This was the start of Amoeba Management.
